Job description

What will you be doing?

Behind every safe marine electrical installation lies rigorous routing design. As an Electrical Cable Tray Design Engineer at Alewijnse, you’ll develop cable-routing and support designs for ships and offshore vessels. You’ll coordinate routes across the vessel’s structure and other disciplines, helping ensure electrical installations are safe, accessible, buildable, and compliant with project and class requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop cable trays and transit layout using vessel general arrangement, fire integrity, hazardous area, equipment locations, and cable-routing requirements.

  • Select tray types and transit sizes, materials, supports, and accessories for the installation environment.

  • Provide calculation of cable trays and transit for dedicated routes.

  • Coordinate routes with electrical, structural, piping, HVAC, and outfitting teams to resolve clashes and maintain access and segregation.

  • Prepare tray arrangement drawings, sections, support details, and installation documentation.

  • Check tray fill, cable separation, bend radii, support spacing, and clearances against project standards and applicable rules.

  • Support cable pull planning, installation sequencing, and maintainability reviews.

  • Review vendor information and respond to design queries from the shipyard or installation team.

  • Support site surveys, inspections, and resolution of construction issues.

Who are you?

  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related discipline.

  • 3 years’ experience with cable tray or cableway design for ships or offshore vessels.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics, cable schedules, equipment layouts, and structural drawings.

  • Experience with 3D design and CAD tools used for routing and coordination; shipbuilding CAD experience is an advantage.

  • Knowledge and understanding of routing software would be considered an advantage.

  • Knowledge of cable installation practices, tray fill, support design, segregation, bend radii, and access requirements.

  • Familiarity with applicable marine standards, classification society requirements, and project specifications.

  • Strong coordination skills and attention to detail.

  • Good written and spoken English.

Key Desirable:

  • Experience with production engineering, shipyard installation, or as-built updates.

  • Familiarity with cable-routing, clash-detection, and material-take-off workflows.

  • Knowledge of hazardous-area, fire-zone, EMC, and watertight-boundary requirements.

  • Experience supporting cable pull plans, inspections, or commissioning.

What do we offer you?

  • Professional and personal growth: opportunities to strengthen your skills on high-end international maritime projects.

  • Career advancement: opportunities to develop within a global engineering environment.

  • A place where your contribution matters: we encourage initiative and support ideas that improve how we work.

  • Collaboration and respect: work alongside a supportive, multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

  • Support to do your job well: access to the tools and resources you need to deliver top performance.
